MONSTER MAGNET: just one of the most important bands of this sub-genre known as stoner metal and hard rock. The band's style draws on 70 years of the space rock of bands like Hawkwind and dark metal and alternative bands like the seminal Black Sabbath. This eighth album
MONSTER MAGNET risks becoming a white fly in a rock scene that gives a nod to current trends and electronics in many different ways. MASTERMIND is probably one of the few discs stoner that nowadays it is worth to include in player but also one of the few rides rock / metal old-fashioned respect and attention it deserves in the presence of a band that made rock history as a seminal Superjudge discs, and Dopes To Infinity POWERTRIP. Finally, an album by MONSTER MAGNET that reflects the unique style of past records and abandons the latest trends and perhaps more mainstream easy listening of the last studio work. MASTERMIND the disc is expected by fans of the band that covers the power, melody, psychedelia and determination that characterize the kind called stoner in the past has created waves of loyal followers.
Windorf DAVE (vocals and guitar) comes in great shape and direct / accompany a band that wants to ridimostrare whole class it is capable of. MASTERMIND is a record that is unlikely to be forgotten so easily because it skillfully blends stoner class trips as hallucination and BORED WITH BOMB sorcery to pieces as a more mainstream hard rock and radio DIG THAT HOLE GODS AND PUNKS, dazed and psychedelic pieces as THE TITAN WHO CRIED LIKE A BABY who makes use of atmospheric keyboards and sounds that accompany the listener on an incredible journey, and the title track is a beautiful piece tiratissimo taking the first listen and see a DAVE Windorf in great shape. 100 MILLION MILES is a runaway train that oozes adrenaline and is followed closely by PERISH IN FIRE exploding and quiet with the onset of dreaming that lightens the TIME MACHINE hearts and invites the listener in a dreamy and intimate journey of discovery of worlds and landscapes forgotten or never discovered (in my opinion a masterpiece). Tranquil atmosphere and sounds aside, we return to the slow pace and claustrophobic in style with the stoner WHEN THE PLANES FALL FROM THE SKY BLACK SABBATH reminiscent of the golden days; GHOST STORY is an old-style rock track midway between Dire Straits and Black Sabbath and ALL OUTTA NOTHIN concludes the album in the wild and pounding. A group
in great shape, a welcome return, a record that is likely to outperform the competition in 2010 and quit the rock in the best way for the band to Windorf. What more could you want? The
MONSTER MAGNET, if you want to find a nit, actually churned out a record that narrows his eyes to the past and the future but in the end when you do good music who cares?
